Our Classes

The 'Dance to Learn!'® Ballet Class is for children who have mastered the basic dance movements taught in Creative Dance and Pre-Ballet. The Ballet class is built on the 'Dance to Learn!'® Curriculum and is designed to teach the whole child through the 6 Methods of Dance™ which have been formed based on the stages of childhood development. In Ballet, students are challenged to focus on Ballet Terminology and proper technical execution of steps. Ballet history, terminology and famous dancers and choreographers will be studied each week as a part of the ‘Dance to Discover!’™ Method. Changing the weekly discovery of class, keeps class interesting and ensures a well rounded education of all facets that compose the Ballet technique. After the weekly class discovery, the class moves onto gentle warm ups, stretches, coordination and strength exercises commonly performed at a ballet “barre”. Dance Exploration often uses desks and chairs as make shift barres, or may even perform barre exercises in the center for further study of balance and weight transfer. Attention to proper execution of exercises and technique is critical when performing Barre exercises and therefore are often performed in repetition. After the barre, the dancers will move across the floor performing single movements and linking movements together forming combinations of movements and skills. All skills are taught chronologically in a progressive series to ensure mastery and prevent injury. The progressive class structure of warms ups, barre and traveling across the floor is part of Dance Exploration’s ‘Dance to Move!’™ method. Exercises are performed individually and with partners. Designed around the ‘Dance to Learn!’® Curriculum and the 6 Methods of Dance™ , our Jr Hip Hop class is designed to teach the whole child. Each month, we pick a new theme to keep classes and activities new and exciting each week. As part of the ‘Dance to Discover!’™ Method, our themed classes will help children associate the skills learned in class with day to day learning. Jr Hip Hop is an introduction to the urban street styles of dancing known commonly as Hip Hop. Jr hip hoppers learn age appropriate movements and skills that will test their motor development as well as their spatial awareness all part of the ‘Dance to Move!’™ Method. The class begins with warming up the muscles with stretches, isolations (moving one body part separately from the others), and fun rhythmic patterns and play. Children's cognitive and social development skills are put to the test when children move across the floor and in the center. Dance moves are age appropriate and as such are more "creative" and "imaginative" at this level, think of more Old School dance moves such as the coffee grinder or sprinkler. Read More...

Dance Exploration’s Cheerleading program is a progressive exploration of chanting, stunting, dance and movement as seen on the side lines of major sports teams. Our Cheerleading program has been designed around childhood development and the stages of each student’s schooling. Our unique ‘Dance to Learn!’® Curriculum, includes 6 Methods of Dance™ all focused on teaching our students dance principles as a tool to help them succeed in other areas of learning. The most important concept in our cheerleading class will be working as a team! Dancers will learn how to move in unison and create fun formations and pictures as a unit. Students will be taught the importance of working together towards a common goal and how to overcome differences. This ability to accept the unique talents of each individual dancer is part of the ‘Dance to Accept!’™ method. Students will learn to work together to produce group cheers, chants and routines that demonstrate the class dynamics. This creative process relates directly to the 'Dance to Create!'™ Method. Cheers/Poms will teach the fundamentals of cheerleading, combined with dancing with pom poms to create fun visual shapes for the audience. Class begins with stretches and warm ups including the basic arm positions of cheerleading and easy cheers and chants as heard on the sidelines. Center work and across the floor activities are performed individually and in groups. Age and skill appropriate combinations will also be taught in this class. All assisted lifts and stunts will be taught and only performed under the supervision of the Dance Exploration, LLC Dance Educator. Children will not be taught these skills until mastery of basic strength exercises have been accomplished to prevent serious injury. These dance, cheer and simple gymnastics skills are taught as part of the ‘Dance to Move!’™ method. Dance Exploration believes in the importance of teaching dance terminology in each class.
